Qur’an Reading CampDescriptionPurpose
The purpose of the Qur’an Summer Camp is to help students continue in their spiritual learning while at the same time enjoying their time off from school. Dar-us-Salaam aims to provide students with an Islamic learning environment that fosters fun and knowledge.
Classes
1. Qur’an: This is the main focus of the camp. Students will spend approximately two to three hours in Qur’an Class. Those students who cannot read the Qur’an fluently will practice their reading skills with the teacher. There are no pre-requisites for this class. The class will be taught on a one-to-one basis. Before the beginning of the camp, there will be a placement test where students will be placed in different levels based on their reading skills. The placement test will be conducted on the following dates:
2. Memorization: For those students who can read fluently and want to memorize from the Qur’an, please see our Intensive Hifzh Camp 2010 Program. 3. Islamic Studies: We realize that it is absolutely important for our students to not just read the Qur’an, but also to live it. The Islamic Studies class will help our students know more about their Islamic heritage, and will help them learn more about their religion. There will be one 45-minute period for Islamic Studies. The Five Pillars of Islam will be covered in these classes. In addition the last week will be dedicated to the important topic of "Kindness to Parents". The classes will discuss these topics and the influences they have on our lives. 5. Sports: We understand that summer is a time where children are very energetic, and want to have fun activities away from school. We hope that our Summer Camp will make this summer a very memorable summer for our beloved students. There will be a structured Sports Program that offers training to our students, followed by fun tournaments and competitions between different classes. We will have some or all of the following activities during the summer camp, Insha Allah. I. Basketball II. Soccer III. Football IV. Track V.
Field Trips
To combine theory with practice, and to make the experience enjoyable for our youth, we will conduct different field trips during the course of the camp that will help our students implement the wisdom that they learn during the Islamic Studies classes. The field trips will be fun and exciting, and will help enhance the students’ Islamic understanding. Typically, the field trips will take place on Wednesdays, though this may change due to weather or scheduling reasons. To enhance this experience, we would appreciate if each parent can commit to volunteer as a chaperone on at least one of the Wednesday's. We would also appreciate if the parents can offer their vans/cars to transport students to the field trips. This will help us cut down the field trip costs, make the trip safer for our students, and allow the parents to be closely involved in their child’s Islamic education.
